About the Photographs
Jim Banks makes incredibly beautiful formal pictures, in which subtle detail enlivens powerful and sculptural compositions. The impact of his images is further enhanced by his exemplary printing, resulting in truly exceptional artworks.

My goal is to create finely crafted black and white prints that reflect my vision of the landscape.
The process begins with an image captured using a medium-format digital camera, or in the case of earlier work, a high-resolution scan of a black and white negative. Each image receives careful processing, and is printed digitally with custom-mixed carbon pigment inks on acid-free fine art paper.
The prints are true to the subjects as originally captured; no manipulation beyond what was typically possible in a traditional darkroom is done.
